I have used Uhaul three times for moving, and had terrible experiences each time.
My most recent experience was the straw which broke the camel’s back. They estimated that the cost of renting a truck for one day would be $50, and told me to return the truck into the lot and put the keys into the box when I was done. A month later, when I got my credit card bill, they charged me $240 for the truck. I called them and got put on hold repeatedly. It got to the point that after being on hold for 20 minutes, I would hang up and they would answer the phone and after hearing two words from me immediately put me on hold.
They wouldn’t even let me get in a sentence beyond “overcharge”.
I tried calling them for days on end without an answer, until finally I got to talk with the manager. The manager said that he couldn’t do anything about it now since the records were all on microfilm, and if I wanted to dispute the charge I should have done it right away.
I put the overcharge into dispute resolution at my credit card company (Discover), and they were completely unhelpful — they demanded “proof” that I returned the truck on the day that I did, as if I would have had a picture taken returning the key into the box signed and notarized with the date.
Beyond this problem, in the past I rented trucks from them which didn’t start, and have spent hours of my life on hold with them.
