We had a confirmed reservation for a large trailer for a long distance oneway rental. I had first ask for a pick up in Chicago, where my son lived. Later we thought it would be better to pick it up in Michigan before going to Chicago as we had things in our home we wanted him to have. I called to ask about changing the reservation. Told, no problem. Guaranteed a pick up time. Day comes and to trailer. Called several times and the closest they could get me one was a two hour drive each way! But, the good news. The Chicago dealer had my trailer. I asked U-Haul if we could have a small trailer just to get us to Chicago where we could get the larger one. Sure, if we wanted to pay more!
Well, we picked up the trailer and got about 5 miles away when the brakes totally locked up. Driving in Chicago traffic without the tires rotating! Called the dealer and was told we’d have to contact the 800 number. Well, we happened to be able to unlock the breaks before the main office ever answered their phone.
Went the rest of the 1300 miles with no problems. Get to the destination and find we were given someone elses reciept! Not such a bad thing except for the fact that it has your total name, address, phone number, drivers license number, and partial credit card information! We are honest people, so we turned in the reciept, but had to have our information located to get things done. Thankfully the dealer we returned to was very helpful. He got my reciept, and didn’t add any extra charges. He called U-Haul and told them about the reciept mix up. He even gave us a brake attachment for free. If U-Haul was run by someone like this guy, maybe they’d be a reputable company and not the shoddy one they are now.
