Bad customer service = ex customer U Haul

U Haul customer service?! I’d pay double to a company without!!! U Haul I dropped the truck in the lot, put the keys in the drop box... the next day I received a call from UHAUL to come and move the truck to anot...

I was moving from Northern Virginia to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, last month (February, 2000). I called to reserve my truck. I was asked for an $80 deposit. I gave the rep my credit card number. I was told that my card was declined. The rep tried two more times. The card was declined both times. I then paid for the deposit using a check.

I then called my bank. The credit card was a check card, so I knew I had money in the account. I was told that the card was actually approved the first time, and declined the second time for a wrong exp. date, and declined the third time because it was a repeat of the first attempt. I called U-Haul back, and was put on hold for over _30_ minutes! I was then told that deposit processing was not done until after hours. The next day, I called the bank and was told that the $80 hold was still on my account, and that the $80 check had cleared ($160 total).

I called U-Haul, again. I was transferred from customer service to sales/reservations seven times! Each time I was told that the other department could help. Each time I asked for a supervisor. Each time I was told that there was not a supervisor. I was then, finally told that they could not help me, and gave another 800 number. I called that number, and was put on hold. I was then promised that the initial $80 hold would be removed. The next day (day 3), I called the bank. The hold was still active. My Bank and I called U-Haul on a conference line. We were transferred twice, between sales/reservations, and customer service. We finally talked to a customer service rep who told my bank that I had, indeed paid twice, but that she could _not_ authorize the removal of the hold. Again, the request for a supervisor was ignored.

When I picked up my truck (which was dirty, and the first one didn’t run), I made a complaint. I have not heard a single word from U-Haul. For this reason, I would not recommend U-Haul to anyone! Avoid at all costs, spend a few extra bucks, and get better quality of service.

The only good thing I have to say about U-Haul, is that they are cheap, I guess you get what you pay for!

Addendum:
I feel that I should add that my experiences with U-Haul have been, generally o.k. I’ve used U-Haul several times, when moving in and out of the Dorms at George Mason University. This has been the first, albeit the absolutely worst experience with U-Haul.
