For a 700 mile trip, I decided to rent a small trailer from UHaul.I encountered the following problems: Their non company “dealers” are scattered all over and you have no way of knowing what equipment they have. They primarily consist of “Storage” outlets. I made an appointment with a small outlet and he failed to show up. I then went to the only company outlet in Naples and they were totally disinterested in helping or answering questions. I finally found another “outlet” who had the desired size trailer and who promised it would be serviced and ready to go on the specified date. I mentioned that this was to be my first trailer rental and hookup and asked if someone would be available to guide me. “Oh yes”. On the appointed day,I arrived at the trailer dealer’s and
there was no trailer. I was told it was a few blocks away having a tire changed and to go there and pick it up. I then found out that I needed a special ball connection (my fault)so I got that and finally hooked up and was on my way.
I drove straight through, got to my destination before sunup. Had a day before being able to unload at my destination so I unhooked the trailer and did some local errands. Going back to hook-up the trailer, I found an almost flat tire. I had to get Uhaul to get their repair site involved. The “tire changer” advised me that the tire looked like it was rotted .. a great feeling for someone traveling 700 miles on an Interstate highway.
I was told that the local dealer would assist me in parking and unhitching the trailer, once I unloaded it. Wrong! The local Uhaul outlet was a tire dealer who didn’t want to be bothered. “Pull the trailer around back and park it”. I did that and just drove off. Being very concerned about the safety issue and their disorganized hap- hazzard operation, I called UHaul to alert them to their problems. I pointed out that by using defective equipment they were risking a major law suit. UHaul “opened a file” to investigate. That was over a month ago and there has been no response from UHaul. I close by mentioning that I bought optional insurance to protect damage to their trailer .. I would have been smarter to buy accident or life insurance for myself
