I received a preliminary statement from U-Haul for an upcoming rental. I am returning this to Elizabeth New Jersey. I noticed there are 3 locations there via the internet. I am trying to determine my directions to get from where I’ll be to drop off a truck. The statement I received notes the Destination Code as 029926. I called the destination number provided but this was apparently off hours for them. The recording said to call an 800 number for 24 hour service. I called that number. I immediately said to the rep I have an upcoming rental and wanted to know which place in Elizabeth I had to return the truck to since the attendant at the location providing the quote said I would be charged extra if not returned to the proper location. For over a minute the rep at the 800 number asked me for an Equipment Code on “the contract”. When she said something would be on the key, I noted (once again) I told her this was an upcoming reservation. She then found the contract number, asked for my name and telephone … which was one the contract to say someone would call me the next day. I asked why she could not simply provide me the dropoff address. She said I’d have to pick up the truck first! I said I wanted to be clear where I was going BEFORE I picked up the truck. She could not tell me what the Destination Code was (although on another contract I had set up for another “drop off” location, the code was different). She said she could not help me because this was off hours customer service … I expressed my confusion noting that it was off hours, but there did not seem to be any customer service … let’s see what tomorrow brings.
