I’ve had only two experiences with U-Haul, both not good.
The first time I rented was to move from upstate New York to Ft. Lauderdale Florida. A long trip. When I picked up the truck I drove out of one of their driveways and right back into the other drive and went right back into their office to complain about the truck.
When the truck started moving it shook so hard I thought it was falling apart… and actually it was… the driver side outside mirror had ripped a large section of sheet metal off the door and was slamming hard back and forth between the door and fender. And that was only at a speed of about 5 to 10 miles per hour… They guy inside said “gee I had just drove it this morning and parked it out front, seemed ok then…” yeah right, like he never noticed the mirror torn off the door…
Well I refused to take it and they did eventually give me another truck… one without working air conditioning for a almost two thousand mile drive in the hottest time of the summer.
The next time was a short move and I ended up with a truck that had no functioning rear lights (or blinkers) and whose head light worked only intermittently… wouldn’t have been so bad if it wasn’t for the fact the pick up and drop off times required I drove the truck at night… and inspection sticker had expired.
