I own a large store with very large piece of furniture and large appliances that some people want to move all by themselves from my store to far away homes. I cannot tell you how many of these people have rented from the U-Haul truck company to do this, only to find that experienced delivery people would have been worth the price!

It is true, that it sounds really easy. Just rent a truck, throw the stuff in, and tote it home. However, it is difficult for ME to even find delivery people who have experience to deliver heavy and/or breakables correctly!

Time after time, I hear back from the customer, telling me what a nightmare their experiences were. The trucks break down, the tires go flat, the cost is far more than expected, and things get broken.

Since we live in a rural area, many families shop at my store, and need to get their things to hundreds of miles away, up mountainous areas, etc.. So many feel that a couple more dollars for those new, expensive things to be delivered by our pro’s is just too much to pay, and they rent a U-Haul. By doing this, I won’t guarantee that their newly purchased items will arrive to their destination without being broken or harmed. So many times, the customer calls back, nearly devastated, that they couldn’t get a truck with an automatic lift gate, and they had to try to balance the things out of the truck onto the ground. With so much weight, they often, cannot manage, and the things do get smashed up. Many customers don’t think about bringing ropes and blankets with which to tie down items, to cover items. It is really sad. If they don’t have home owner’s insurance, the things are not covered for damage while being moved. (If you DO have a policy that covers your belongings while in transit, use it!!!!!)

Most customers end up by telling me that they wished they had paid the extra money to have a professional deliver their expensive things. The U-Haul trucks are not all they are cracked up to be, and cracked up is used on purpose in that sentence! Think about using a U-Haul, think about the damage factor, think about the total cost of having your treasures delivered in the correct number of pieces! You may decide that leaving this to the professionals (who ARE insured to get it there in proper order) may be a better idea for you! I do!
