Dissapointed U Haul

We rented a 14 ft U-Haul truck to move from Wisconsin to Pennsylvania and I was really disappointed by how it went.

The truck overheated in Illinois, the first state we drove through! When we rang the emergency hotline we were disconnected when they tried to transfer us….it was supposed to be an emergency!! When I rang back they did apologize for the inconvenience of the truck breaking down however they then transfered me through to a local contractor who was supposed to help and I had to start right back at the start explaining the whole situation to him again from the start- I would have thought they could pass on some message. We only waited 2 and a half hours for the contractor to arrive which wasn’t too bad but all he did was top up the radiator, something we would have liked to do ourselves but the contract was very explicit about calling for assistance in any situation.

Unfortunately after that we had to drive through Indianna, Ohio and Pennsylvania without air-conditioning in mid-July. The floor of the truck also gives off an amazing amount of heat so much so that you had to keep shoes on to protect your feet!. We had to stop three times more to top up with water because we were still losing a lot.

What was really frustrating in all this was having “Air Conditioning” written on the side of the truck as an advertisement of its features.

To add to everything on the day we arrived at our destination there was a downpour of rain and we quickly realized that the truck was not even nearly waterproof!

Just wanted to share this so other people are aware of possible considerations.
