I had scheduled a reservation since may, not listening to my friends telling me about U-Haul’s awful reputation and their bad experiences with this company. I though it would be ok, since I had moved last year using U-Haul.
I called in June and re-scheduled it for 8/6/5. Talked directly to this office in Chantilly, VA several times. I even chose to pay the $5.00 you charge to confirm the reservation.
The day before, 8/5/5, I tried to call and someone asked me to hold for a moment and I hung after 47 minutes without anyone taking my call.
On saturday, 8/6/5, I called again early in the morning and got the same question: “can you hold for a moment?”. I waited for more than 20 minutes and then I took my car and drove there. I got to that location with my call still on hold (42 total minutes!).
They told me they didn’t have my reservation there. Just like that. And that if I wanted to know about my truck, I had to call the regional office, which I stopped after being on hold for more than 20 minutes. They even told me that in the office: “You may call, but you will be on hold for a long time because there’s only one person and very busy”.
I ended up finding a truck with Budget that, even though more expensive, let me finally complete the move. Their service is way better: they treat you like a customer. In the same budget office was another person who had a truck confirmed the day before and when he got there got the same “I don’t have anything for you”.
