Do they really think people are stupid? U Haul
The horror U Haul When I think of all the bad customer experiences I have had in my life, U-Haul stands out. Unfriendly, slow, unresponsive, downright stupid ...
U Haul is the worst company I have ever worked with U Haul I went to a U Haul office on North Clark in Chicago on 9/28/07 to buy some boxes. There were ten people in line and one person at the servi...
Easily the least professional company I have ever dealt with. I have rented two trucks three trailers and one tow dolly. Of these seven products I have had only one actually perform as advertised. I have been cheated out of a tank of gas (30 gallon tank) an $85 dollar deposit and who knows how many hours of wasted time arguing with U-haul employees.
I have had an inordinate amount of trouble with this company, but in the interest of time and space, I will only list one distinct episode. About two years ago I reluctantly agreed to give this company one more chance. I made the appointment a week in advance for a fourteen foot truck and an auto transport (U-hauls term for a car trailer). I figured with a 7 day notice there was no way that even these jokers could screw it up. Boy was I in for a surprise!
The trip was a one way 800 mile trip and traveled across two state lines. As I was to soon learn the company has labeled different trucks for these one way trips and they had chosen to save me a round trip truck instead of a one way. This didn’t seem like a problem until they called me a liar when I told them I had ordered a one way truck. Now it may be different where this guy was raised, but I don’t think it is good customer service to call your patrons liars.
After waiting in that disgustingly filthy warehouse for over five hours, I was finally told that a truck would be unavailable until late afternoon the next day and that I should come back then. Obviously I threw a fit, but what can you do? I waited my time like a good boy chewing knuckles, canceling hotels, travel plans and an additional day of work. When I showed up the next day at noon, I was told it would only be a minute, only to wait an additional 4 hours in that filthy building.
When the truck finally arrived almost 35 hours late, I was understandably upset, but what I discovered when I approached the truck put me over the top. The trailer had a broken tie down strap, one flat tire and one low tire. The truck had no fuel, a sticky floor and leftover trash from the previous renters. These people actually wanted me to drive away in that death trap.
I must also report that the privately owned U-haul franchise at the other end of this trip, was just as poorly managed as the nightmare one I just described. An attempt was even made to charge me for damage that was so old it was rusty. Do they really think that people are that stupid? Or do people just pay and leave without saying anything.
For me and anyone I can influence. U-haul will never again get a single rusty penny without first kidnapping and holding me hostage. And that I swear.
