My children rented two U-Hauls for their move to Pennslvania from the Tampa/St. Pete area of Florida. They made it across Florida without incident, but when they reached the Deland area, the truck that my son-in-law was driving blew a tire. The tire literally shredded off the hub, went over the medial strip and struck an oncoming car. It rolled up over that car,causing damage to the front end, breaking the windshield and caused the airbags to deploy. Fortunately no one was hurt, but the car did have to be towed from the scene. The kicker is…When the investigating officer called in the information on the truck, he found it had not been registered for the past three years, much less inspected! My kids were held up for over three hours waiting for someone from U-Haul to come and repair the truck. They are still being held to U-Haul’s tight 5 day schedule, 3 days of which were used up in Florida, packing the trucks, final walkthrough of their house, and settlement the next day. Appeals for more time fell on deaf ears. Frankly I won’t breathe easily till they are finished with this trip and rid of the trucks! I wonder if the other truck is registered and properly inspected. When we avail ourselves to services like these we are putting our lives into someone elses hands and can only hope that they are scrupulous ones.
