I would like to share my total disgust about my experience with U-Haul. I had a confirmed reservation for a 17’ truck for Saturday 06/28/2003 for which they charged me a non-refundable $5.00.

I received a call on Friday 06/27 saying my pickup was going to be scheduled between 3 pm and 5 pm on the 28th, which was in the first place too late for me. I made a 3 calls on the 28th between 10 am and 3 pm, at which time I was told that I would be called between 3 pm and 5 pm to pickup the truck. The last person at 5 pm virtually guaranteed that I would get a truck by the end of day.

When I did not hear from UHaul at 5 pm, I called back and got a very rude customer service representative who asked me why I was calling again and again and tying up all the phone lines. She mentioned that there were a lot of other people like me who were still waiting for their trucks and none were available. When I mentioned that I was only concerned about my reservation, she offered to make a truck out of “play-doh” for me. She also mentioned that I would hear before 6:30 pm and if there were no trucks by then, I would get one the next morning.

At 6:45 pm, when I had not received a single call from U-Haul, I decided to call back and the person I spoke with said there were no trucks at all, and I would not get one at least until Monday, which put my entire move in jeopardy.

In the meantime, I had asked several of my friends to help me move, but with no truck, I had to ask them all to go ahead with their own plans, and not wait for me. This entire experience has left a very bitter taste in my mouth. I tried calling every other truck rental company, but they were all booked out. I had to borrow a pick-up truck from a friend and move everything myself, and made more than 10 trips. I am totally disgusted!

Never again! I will try and get my $5 back, but I dont think I will be successful. Small Claims Court for $5… you better believe it.
