If you do any research concerning move-it-yourself-truck-rentals and STILL rent a U-Haul truck you deserve what you get! Harsh, but true.
These trucks are unreliable, unsafe, dirty, uncomfortable, and the U-Haul staff has never heard of the term “customer service”. We cannot understand how these people stay in business.
In June, 2006 we rented a U-Haul on short notice on a Sunday, despite their reputation, because it was all we could find. We only had to drive 40 miles loaded and 40 miles back. We got to our destination OK but it was downhill after that. The truck would barely run on the return trip and we had to stop every 1 to 3 miles FOR THE WHOLE TRIP. It was a nightmare since there was little or no room on the road in the several areas the truck died. It was downright dangerous and we were furious! It took us 2 hours to go 40 miles.
We knew from others who had previous experience with U-Haul that there would probably be problems, but thought they would be minor due to the short distance we had to travel. WRONG!
We would carry our belongings on our backs before renting another U-Haul truck. Pack mules are more efficient - and smell better!!!
