I used U-Haul when I moved from an apartment to my first house. It was very easy to reserve the "perfect" truck for my needs over the phone, and they were certainly the most inexpensive that I had contacted. However, when I arrived, my truck was nowhere to be seen. They could get me a truck later that afternoon, but it would be a stick shift…NO WAY!!! It was going to be hard enough for me to drive a truck much bigger than I was used to, let alone it be a stick.

Terribly frustrated at this point, I insisted that they get a truck for me NOW! By this time, someone else had walked in the door. No truck for this family either. How could a company reserve more trucks than they had available? I could not get an answer for almost a half-hour. Finally, I was presented with an offer. I could wait until the following morning and be certain I would get what I wanted, or they would give me the stick shift truck at half price. Of course, I was young and needed to save as much money as possible, I went with my worst nightmare…THE STICK!

I went back and picked the truck up about three hours later and got everything moved by nightfall. I was relatively happy until the following day when I returned the truck. The man that had set me up with the wonderful half price offer was off and no one else knew about the "special deal". It was written down nowhere. I argued until I was blue in the face, but got nowhere. My total was over $70 for moving a mere 7 miles. I called the following day and resumed my bargaining, but to no avail. When everything was posted on my credit card statement, I called U-Haul’s customer service number on my bill, and only got offered a discount on a future move. I would NEVER use U-Haul again.
