If you hate to move, and like me and can’t really afford to pay someone to do it for you, then U-Haul is the answer. I rented a 17ft truck, furniture dolly, and 2 dozen moving blankets. In the one way moving package from Tampa, FL, to Fort Myers, FL, they included 162 free miles and it only cost me 175.00, which was about 25% cheaper than all the competitors. If you need boxes or any other packing supply, they have a big selection of box sizes, lots of different types of Tape, and anything else that you would need to move. If you need to pick up a truck, they have locations everywhere, relatively easy to find a location.
Now about the equipment. The 17ft truck, it was really beat up, it leaked oil, the AC did not work (if you are from or have been to South Florida you know how important AC is), and the roll up door did not function correctly. One good thing is they at least told me about the broken door. I can say one good thing about the truck it was pretty easy on fuel, I only had to fill up 1 time and it cost me $43.
Customer service. I will give them some credit, they tried to make this a painless as possible, but move like snails. When I got to my destination, I returned the truck it took them about 10 minutes to even recognize I was there. Then after they did the inspection, I went inside to release the truck back to them, and was in there for about 20 minutes. I don’t think they really care to win customers by outstanding customer service, I think they just low-ball the competitors, so they can get the business.
To sum it up, they are really inexpensive, have good packing supplies, and tons of locations. They could do a better job on maintenance of the equipment, and get some motivated people behind the counter so you can get in and out as fast as possible.
