Unlike most people who have written a review, my experience with Uhaul was not as painful as I expected. But it did start off on the wrong foot. There was an extremely long line when I went to the place. At first there was only one person servicing about 15 people in front of me, but after a while (20 min) they had about three people working pick-up. All in all, it took me 45 min to get some attention. I advise everyone to pick up your van when the open, it’ll save you a lot of annoyance. You must understand that their operations system has much to be desired, so try to be patient with the employees because of their data management systems stink, it takes almost 10 min to process each customer.
Since I was moving In-Town in NYC I used a cargo van. What a great decision. The van was pretty new and drove really well, it even smelled fine. It was easy to park as well, a consideration when in a major city. Also, it was easy to load, it held a lot more than their truck because it was longer and there was room in the passenger area for a couple of boxes. The dropoff was quick and easy.
One quick point, when stating how long you need the van, ask for about three hours extra because it really doesn’t cost more (I think…I could be wrong) and moving always takes longer than you expect. I paid $65 for the van and $5 to replenish the gas. Not bad when you consider the cost of hiring a company to move your stuff runs at least four times that, not including tip.
