I recently rented a U-Haul to drive some stuff from Jacksonville Fl to D.C. I didn’t have a problem with getting my truck but I think that is because I got them to tell me the name of the place I would be renting the truck ahead of time. So I was actually able to talk to a person and ensure that I would get the 10 foot truck that I needed. When I got the truck, it only took 1 hour, I could tell that it was old and beat up but I was just so happy to have the truck I didn’t care. As I was driving the truck to my storage unit it stalled out. It freaked me out but my brother said it had a low idle and that was normal for trucks. Also the seat was a bench seat and the lever that moves the seat was broken, I am only 5′2 so I had to sit low down and tip-toe the gas pedal while craining my neck to see over the steering wheel. The gas tank seem to take only 10 gallons worth of gas, so we had to stop about every 2 hours on the 13 hour 800 mile trip. When we stopped the truck would stall out, which was really dangerous trying to use the off ramps. It’s a miracle we didn’t encounter any traffic. When I returned the truck I had to take it to two places, the first place was listed on the web site but when we got there they said they didn’t deal with U-haul anymore. I told the guy who checked us out about the problem but he didn’t really seem to care about the problems we encountered. Reading about other people’s troubles with mechanics and customer service, I am glad we just kept going and didn’t deal with U-Haul trying to fix them. After this experience I believe that Uhaul is a crooked company that cares nothing for safety or customer satisfaction.
