Let’s face it, if most of us had a viable option to Uhaul, we’d all use it. Whenever I use Uhaul, they never really hold a reservation. This past time, I needed a truck and trailer to haul some things. Well, they reserved the truck and trailer…but no hitch balls! You can’t tow a trailer with a piece of string. They sent me all around town to find my own hitch ball, which added a lot of time to my move. When I finally got everything taken care of, they rented the truck I originally had and stuck me with a really old one. It’s just moving, it really shouldn’t be this difficult. Their employees are very unhelpful, lazy and rude here in Chicago. They are just renting trucks and stuff and yet they can’t seem to get it right or do it promptly. I’ve seen so many times people get frustrated and blow up at the UHaul counter, so I know it’s not just my bad luck. In fact, I think the store here on North broadway in Chicago has to be their WORST store in the world. No, really. You should stop in to see how mis-managed and un-customer-friendly they are. Infact, at night, the manager leaves all the trucks unlocked in the open parking lot so that hookers can turn tricks in the trucks. He doesn’t want his trucks to get damaged so he just leaves them unlocked. This is smack-dab in the middle of one of Chicago’s nicer neighborhoods. It’s a total joke. Letters to Uhaul Corporate Headquarters from our neighborhood association have not provoked any improvement on Uhaul’s part. I guess it’s better policy to bury your corporate head in the sand, while hoping and praying for the best. (Hey, just imagine the bad PR if one of those junkies or hookers overdoses in the back of one of those unlocked Uhaul trucks.) This Broadway Uhaul has treated our neighborhood and its customers poorly for years. We don’t have a lot of choices in downtown Chicago as far as moving companies. Land is tight here, so there aren’t competitors on every corner.
