I had a friend of mine a few years ago ask me if I would help him move.Being the great friend I am I said yes.
We headed down to our local U Haul and rented a truck to get started.Price was not all that expensive if I remember correctly it was around $75.00 which was the second smallest truck.
We left with the truck and headed to go pick up the first load.The truck began showing signs of a lot of issues.
The air and radio didn’t work for starters.Which would have been okay if nothing else went wrong.When you went to shift into first gear at a light we got a whole bag of no love.There was no first gear anymore.
So now we are driving down the road in SW Florida in the middle of July with no air,radio,and first gear when the suspension on the truck decided neither my friend or I needed to worry about having children in the future,because surely after this ride we wouldn’t be able to.
We called U Haul to complain and we were told either deal with it or go to another moving company because that was the last truck.
Since my friend HAD to be out of his apartment that day,we climbed back into what looked like in was a reject of the 70’s and felt like it hadn’t had maintenance since then either.After all day and many trips across town we finally finished the move.
We returned the truck and the U Haul (whom from my experience with this rental are not the brightest crayon in the box) actually had the NERVE to try to charge us for the issues with the truck saying they were our fault. After talking (okay so I was yelling)to the manager we were able to walk away and even managed to get a few dollars back from them.
I have had many experiences since this one(Never with U Haul again)but none were ever this bad.
If I had to compare this U Haul with the Ryder I rented,I would have to say I will stick with Ryder from here on out.Yes,Ryder cost me a little more(only by a few dollars) but I had a reliable truck that didn’t try to sterilize me in the process of the move.
From here on out if I don’t hire a mover,I will stick with Ryder.
