Today I went to pick up a truck and trailer from U-HAUL ELYSIAN FIEL in Nashville, TN for a one way move to Chattanooga, TN. I had made reservations weeks in advance. When I got there two idiots where at the counter looking as if they have been smoking pot all day. I told them my name and they said they did not have the 26’ truck I requested. I agreed a 24’ truck would be OK and they set up my rental requesting all of the same information I had already entered on Uhaul’s website. The guy entering the information was not the brightest crayon in the box and slowly set me up taking at least 15 minutes at the computer. The worker then went out back and prepared the truck and trailer. We got my car on the trailer with no problems and he gave me the keys with no instruction and 1/8th a tank of gas. I figured this would be OK and I could just get has on the way to my apartment which is no big deal. As I pulled out of the parking lot the truck began to run very badly so I headed down the road less then a mile from that Uhaul dealer looking for a place to turn around and go back so they could check out the truck or give me another. As I accelerated at a major intersection during rush hour traffic the truck just died in the middle of the intersection. I put on my hazard lights and immediately tried to get the truck started again so I was not blocking all the rush hour traffic with the trailer and my car on it. The piece of crap would act like it wanted to start but immediately die. After trying to get the truck to start after 5 minutes I called the dealer back where I got the truck and asked for help. They told me there was nothing they could do and to call the 800 number in my rental agreement even though I was less then a mile from them!. I called the 800 number, waited on hold for 13 minutes as I blocked rush hour traffic. I was finally connected to some asian guy with very poor english and it took over another 15 minutes of blocking rush hour traffic to get him to understand my situation. He said he would have a mechanic to me within 45 minutes. As 45 minutes rolled by and more cursing of the truck while attempting to start it I went ahead and called the police for assistance since I was still blocking a major intersection and Uhual was not in a hurry to do anything about it. About 15 minutes later a nice cop showed up and called a tow truck since I was blocking rush hour still. We waited about 45 minutes for a big rig tow truck to come across town in the heat and middle of traffic. The tow truck driver was a nice guy (he did not work for Uhaul but contracted for the police) He hooked up the truck and was ready to go but then discovered the trucks brake system was stuck on and it would not release. After more cursing at the truck from him and I we had to take the drive shaft out in the middle of rush hour traffic and then drag the truck to get it to release. This was 3.5 hours after the ordeal started and the uhual mechanic finally showed up. The truck was then towed to another uhaul dealer which was closed by this point. After unloading my car and getting home I called uhual back to get another truck and got the run around while waiting over 45 minutes on the phone. Their CSR’s told be there was nothing they can do and to contact the dealer again tomorrow. Tomorrow I will be asking for a refund..
