I will never do buisness with U-Haul again.
I rented a U-Haul truck to make a local move after comparing prices and availability and deciding U-Haul was the best bargain. I went to pick up the truck, first filling out the required paper work. I chose not to purchase the extra insurance which would cover costs in the event of an accident (who gets in accidents?). I paid with my visa debit card, and was on my way.
After loading my belongings I headed for my new residence. Half way there I ended up as the last vehicle in a 4 vehicle pile up. No one was hurt but all vehicles were damaged.I contacted U-Haul at their 1-800 costomer servise number and they contacted a local towing company. It was at my expense that the truck was towed to my new residence to unload and then to their shop which was not less than I expected. I was informed that I would be financaly responsable for repairs to the truck which I was aware of, having not purchaced the extra insurance. They informed me that an estimate of the damage would be made at their shop.
I expected to hear from them soon regarding the cost of repairs, but instead I got a call from my bank regarding suspisous activity on my account! U-Haul, using my visa debit number had emptied my bank account! They had began by trying to debit the full amount of repairs and continued to request money in slightly smaller amounts until it was an amount for which I had sufficient funds, nearly $2,000.00. They left my bank account empty and me unable to pay a number of my monthly bills,for which I was responsible for late fees and negative marks to my credit.
U-Haul had not bothered to call me and inform me of the damages. They did not offer me an opportunity to pay in instalments or in full. I never imagined they would or could simply empty my bank account without notification.
I called to speak with a representative and eventualy a manager, all of whom treated me not like a customer, but like a criminal. They were exeedingly rude and their only messege to me was I owed it and they could take it. They were unintrested in my desire to pay on any kind of payment schedule. They had my money and that was that.
U-Haul never sent me so much as the initial estimates let a lone an account of transactions. I am dumbfounded as to their ideas of costomer service. I am convinced that they care nothing about their customers in any sense.
I will never use U-Haul again!
