I reserved a 24′ moving truck on Uhaul’s website on 6/15/2003. Our reservation was to pick up our truck on 7/30/2003. Uhaul’s policy is to call the day before your pick up day and confirm the pick up location. Uhaul (Nita) called us at 4 PM on 7/29/2003 to tell us that they did not have any trucks for us, nor did they know when they would get any in(days/weeks/unknown).
I have left two messages for Nita’s supervisor (Kelly Van Wheeler) who has not returned any of my phone calls. I called Nita again on 7/30/2003 and she said that they did not have any trucks and still did not know when any would be arriving.
According to my contract, it states that Uhaul must offer me equipment of “equal or greater size”. No substitute equipment has been offered. We have to be out of our apartment and now have no moving truck to complete our move out of state.
Nita offered no apology and was rude about the entire situation. When I asked to speak to another supervisor, this request was declined. I called the national Uhaul service who said my only option was to deal with the local distribution Uhaul office.
A confirmed reservation should guarantee me a truck. Uhaul is leaving people stranded and unable to complete their moves. I am now desperately trying to find a mover, our apartment has been rented and we must vacate today.
