U Are Better Off Without Them! U Haul

First, let me say that our family moves–a lot! Growing up, I went to 14 schools by the time I graduated high school. Since then, in the 3 years that my husband and I have been married, we have moved 3 more times. So I have quite a bit of experiencing in moving, which includes which to use.

Since we don’t have a lot of belongings, we have always opted to move ourselves with the use of a rented truck. I have to say that U-Haul is probably the most widely used company, or at least the company with the most locations in the areas in which I have lived.

U Haul helped me…… U Haul

It’s amazing to me to see all the people who seem to whine about everything. In my life I have used U-Haul several times. Never did I have any problems what-so-ever, after I learned HOW to properly rent a U-Haul truck…..READ ON FOR THE SECRET:

You see, if your not smart, your just not smart and if your not a people person on top of that, then oh well, your going to have a rough time at any U-Haul and life for that matter.

Don’t use their reservation system!!! U Haul

The biggest problem: U-Haul’s Reservation System

Let’s just say that after dealing with U-Haul’s national “reservation” system, I’d like to catch the Board of Directors in a dark alley somewhere.

It “works” like this:

You can reserve a truck (and related equipment) either online or through an 800 number. I used the online system, as I prefer the automated nature of it. I selected a 14′ truck, a dolly, and 12 furniture pads. Then I selected my preferred pick up location, date, and time. After going through a few pages of agreements, credit card info, etc, I received an email confirmation of my reservation. The website and email both indicated that someone from my local reservation office would contact me within the next 24 hours.

Moving? Try U Haul!!! U Haul

I recently moved from Colorado to North Carolina and rented a 24′ U-Haul Truck. I did this in spite of all the negative opinions I have heard about this company. We received the truck at our desired location on the date we had reserved it for. It was pretty clean on the inside and out. We also ordered many supplies and received those immediately. Our U-Haul agent even threw in a utility dolley for FREE! This move cost us appoximately $1800, that’s including the optional insurance. Budget and Ryder were just a tad cheaper, but there was no local pick-up, that’s another reason I chose UHaul. Now on to the trip. Loading the U-Haul was very easy using the dolley’s. We started out and the first time we got gas, it was appx. $90 to fill up the truck. We were able to drive on one tank of gas for appx. 500 miles! I was shocked that it did that well on gas! I believe these size trucks average 5MPG. Now, for the bad part, we made it appx. 1000 miles to Tennessee, but those mountains did the radiator in. As we stopped at a gas station, we noticed anti-freeze pouring out of the bottom. Immediately we called U-Haul and within 20 minutes, a mechanic showed up. He replaced the radiator and we were on our way. Another 20 miles down the road, the radiator blew again. Once again, we called UHaul and the same mechanic showed up within 20 minutes. This time he figured it was going to take a few hours, so we checked into a hotel and let the man do his job. By the morning, the truck was all set to go and we made the rest of our trip with no problem. Once we checked the truck back in, the inspection was very simple, we had to clean the inside and out and return it in working order with a 1/4 tank of gas. We submitted our receipt for that one night at the hotel and left the U-Haul place. Within 3 hours, U-Haul had called and said our refund was ready. They paid us in CASH for our hotel. With all of this said, we will definitely use U-Haul again!! We plan to move again in 3 years, and U-Haul is the only company I will go with. I hope all of you have as much luck as we did.

U haul needs to learn what the word reservation means U Haul

This is my family’s second terrible experience with U-haul, so I am confident that this is a horribly run company. Both incidents involve the dreaded reservation. Both reservations were made in person at the local branch, so those who say U-haul is okay if you work with them at the local level, you’re wrong. Long story short, I was supposed to receive a call the day prior informing me of the pickup location and time. No call was received or message left. I call the morning of my scheduled pickup, no one answers even though they are open. I call national number and am told by a “reservation specialist” to go to so and so location to pick up right now. This location is the same location I made the reservation at, so I am somewhat confident that this will work. I get to the U-haul location and am told that “man we don’t have any one-ways here, you’re going to have to wait for us to call you.” Now mind you, my reservation was made for 7:00 am and it is now almost 8:00 am. Furthermore, what same person would wait for them to call when they had already proved the night before they were incapable of calling. I pointed this out to them and there only response was sorry, we got into this same problem with a couple of people last weekend. I can give you the number of xxx office in xxx distant city, they may have one for you there. Other experience was much the same. Nough said.

Unhappy. Truck unavailable on reservation day. U Haul

I’ve rented with other self-move companies (like Penske) and had good experience. So I didn’t expect much difference from U-Haul. Unfortunately I was wrong and should have seen the warning signs.

I reserved a truck 6 weeks before my move-out date. As my rental date approached I was supposed to receive a confirmation call from U-Haul. I never did and had to call them. They reassured me that everything was on track.

Use U Haul at your own risk U Haul

May 20-22nd, 2005. Concord NH to Buffalo NY

Absolutely horrible all-around experience. Where to start.

Reserved a 17′ truck online several weeks in advance. Upon buying supplies from the local U-Haul store just a few days before the move, I asked the clerk to check for my reservation in the system, and there was none. He told me to wait as the online reservations go through a separate system. Fair enough.

DON’T RENT FROM THE RIP OFFS!!! U Haul

Long story short, when we rented our truck this weekend, we got it with 1/4 tank of gas. When we were finished, we stopped to gas it up, filled it to 1/2 tank, for $30.01. My husband noticed the gage kept going up and down. By the time we got to the Uhaul office,(which was the next 2 exits off the highway), the gage was reading under 1/4. The woman at the counter was VERY rude %26 told us it would cost us $60 if we didn’t take it to a gas station and she couldn’t do anything to help us. Once next door, we ended up putting in ANOTHER $50 of gas, only for the gage to read 1/4 AGAIN. When we returned, we were helped by another associate who notified us that they have about 3 trucks with gas gage problems!!! Just got off the phone with the GM %26 was told…..WE DON’T REIMBURSE FOR GAS!! They KNOW the truck is broken and STILL let people use it just so they can get the money!!! This location is on 3001 Capital Blvd in Raleigh, North Carolina. The GM is Ghazi Samet, phone #919-876-3001. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!

You wanted a 26 foot truck? All I have is a 14 ft. U Haul

So, My husband and I buy a house 2 states away, we were very calculated and planned long and hard for this. We were pre approved for our mortgage, we searched for the perfect house in the perfect area. We bought a second car, we started 2 months ahead of time. We wanted a smooth ride. Thats why I figured I would book the U-haul 4 weeks in advance, this way we could get the biggest truck they have with no worry.

Yeah, right.

U Haul customer service?! I’d pay double to a company without!!! U Haul

I dropped the truck in the lot, put the keys in the drop box… the next day I received a call from UHAUL to come and move the truck to another location. Apparently, there was a problem when the truck was returned; the location did not accept trucks. That location accepted trucks a month earlier, and even after such changes there was still an open drop box without any sign for customers. Any person would assume that if there is no warning, then the location accepts trucks. When I called a customer service with my concern, the representative did not solve the issue but just said: “It’s not our problem, if you don’t move the truck your contract will remain open and we’ll keep charging you!” …and HUNG UP!!!!!!!!! Nice service!!!…take the money..and run!!! Notice…they don’t even provide a mailing address, because they just simply don’t want to receive any complaints. Sure you can fill out a form online or over the phone and they will tell you that someone will be contacting you within 48 hours. It’s been three days, I called to check the status…and what do I hear??…”Oh, I’m sorry I don’t see any complaints filed by you.” I had to explain everything again just to hear…”We provide trucks for your move! If something happens after your move, we can’t help you!!!” I will never use the services of UHAUL again…nor do/will I recommend it to anyone. I understand that the purpose of the UHAUL is to provide trucks, but there should also be an obligation to help the customer that is paying money for the service the company provides. If the company is not able to provide the customers the help/respect they deserve, then the customer service department should not exist. Customer Service representatives should HELP the customer…NOT hang up on them!!! If you expect to be treated with respect, look for moving equipment elsewhere!
