Check the equipment before you leave U Haul
I rented a u-haul to drive from Myrtle Beach to NC. We loaded the truck all day and about 11:00 at night I was ready to take off. About 15 minutes into the trip I was told at a traffic light that the truck had no working lights in the rear or on the transport. Since I had turned in the keys to the rental property I could not go back there and did not know a sole in the state. I called u-haul and explained the situation to them and they said they would be there in two hours and I should lock the doors and sit on the side of the road. I once again explained to them that I was a female in a strange town driving a big u-haul in the middle of the night with no lights. I told them I would try and make it to Wal-Mart down the street and wait there. I waited the two hours and called back only to be told the repair guy was really busy and he should be there in 45 minutes. This went on all night and I finally saw the repair man around 8:00 the next morning. He took a part off his car to fix the truck with and said “Hopefully that will last you”. I told him the breaks on the truck felt funny and he said, “If you want to unload this truck, I can haul it in and work on the breaks, but if I was you I would try to make it”. I drove about two hours the next morning and was so tired from sitting in the Wal-Mart parking lot all night that I had to stop and get a motel room to rest in. All in all, U-haul does not care about you and will let you get killed in their trucks. When I called and talked to them about the incident at the home office they were like, Well, you made it and your not dead. They did give me $40 in vouchers in case I ever rent from them again. If you are moving, please check out the equipment before you leave the company. I paid almost $500 for this terrible experience!!
