Pinball Wizard? U Haul

I saw a review of Texas Epinionator Najusa’s on these guys and it made me think about Neysa’s arrival to SA from Houston. I give these guys a big high-five because they give you a damn good deal, and they got my business anytime I need to make that big move down the highway.

First of all, when I picked up one of their 16-foot , the guy just handed me the key after having me initial a sheet that said there was only one dent on it. I got in and realized I hadn’t driven anything in my life that was that damn big. Somehow I followed Neysa back to her apartment complex and nearly had a fit backing it into a parking space.

We began loading that thing, and after half-filling the trailer with furniture, we realized there was a slide-out ramp that you could use to walk things up instead of having to lift them in. Well, at least I got my exercise. So we hop in with a neighbor of hers and head to her depot to get more stuff before the first trip to SA. I find out this thing has a floppy driver’s side mirror which I have to keep adjusting every half-mile or so. On the way back, I misjudged the security gate, and, CRUNCH! goes Ding No. 1.

So we drive back to SA and unload this thing, and ramp or not, by the time we got done we had to sleep it off. We’re up bright and early the next day and hauled back to Houston to get more stuff. We started backing this thing in towards the dumpster and…CRACK! goes Ding No. 2. This one was slightly more noticeable than #1, which could be blown off as part of the original ding it came with. We figured we could smear it with dirt or something, or maybe they wouldn’t notice. And if they did, how much would they charge anyway?

On the last trip we took everything including her giant Sears refrigerator. I could feel the weight of that baby but the truck handled it real well. Only we had to stop for gas, and when I tried to maneuver it into filling position…CREAK! Ding No. 3. An old lady was watching me and told me I could paint it over. We figured that was a good idea.

We unloaded that night and woke up early the next morning to figure what to do. I decided to get some drywall compound, and damned if that didn’t do the trick. I smeared it with mud real good so it wasn’t too obvious. We then dutifully filled it with gas and brought it back to a location in a crack neighborhood. There was a young kid inside who had no intentions of going outside to inspect the truck. We gave him the key and kinda blew off getting our deposit back as we zipped down the road.

Overall, it’s a good truck for a good price with plenty of space if you know how to pack. I also realized later that the sides of the truck are made of plastic and can kinda screw off and be replaced because of people like me. It doesn’t do too bad on gas either considering the load it hauls (I dropped about twenty bucks each way). The people are real cool and obviously don’t try to get even with you for messing up their truck, though I wouldn’t wanna have to weasel out of a fender-bender.

My advice: save your money on professional …U-Haul it!
