On May 28, 2004 I rented a large U Haul van to move my furniture. It turned out to run poorly and smelled of diesal fuel while I was driving. I was told by the manager: Mr. Leon McCoy to: “Just fill it up when you bring it back.” Well I did just that and filled the tank up to full. When I arrived back at the U Haul business rental site at 4 pm that day, he stated why did you fill it up? I stated to him that that is what he told me to do before I brought it back. He stated: No I did not and that is not company policy. You will not get reimbursed for that. I stated what kind of business is that? He repeated the policy and told me to read the contract. I stated to him: What about the $28.05 I spent for diesel fuel and he just smirked and stated I will not pay you for the fuel. I said I want to speak to customer service and he stated go ahead and call them. I did at the rental office and after waiting for about 45 minutes, the representative who is named Paul Barante stated He would not help me on this. I emailed a message to the corporate office/customer service (to a Pawlla Johnson) and was told that they used to tell the customers to fill up the tank before bringing it back back in 1996 and before this date, but that after 1996 they changed their policy and will not refund for fuel. My advice to all people wanting to rent a U Haul vehicle or trailer from U Haul to not do business with them as the vehicles are rather unsafe, dirty, broken down or unserviced, and you will be treated in the worst way from the time you walk in the door to the time you leave the office. I was treated to unprofessionally and unethically that I will never rent from U Haul again ever, ever, ever, ever……. . Michael Reynolds
