You spend weeks packing, carefully wrapping the glasses, labeling the boxes for the appropriate rooms, making sure what you’ll need first is near the top…let’s not forget what had to happen to get you to this point: Listing and selling your house, looking for, and closing on the new house. Agents, Lenders, Underwriters, Buyers, Adjusters! The last thing you need right now is another aggravation!

Well let me tell you, when the time came for renting a truck to move our entire world from one house to the next, all the above mentioned aggravations put together came in second place to the aggravation we went through with U-Haul.

It all begins with opening the telephone book: The biggest ad jumps out at you, it’s U-Haul. You think, "Surely, the largest renter of hauling trucks will offer the best rates." The customer service representative kindly tells you that they have several sizes to choose from. Being a self-proclaimed intelligent man, I give great thought to the size I will need and reserve the truck.

MOVING DAY: I get to the U-Haul office and spend a good five minutes just trying to figure out where the entrance is! I’m then greeted by: a long wait. Apparently, the customer in front of me isn’t able to get the size truck he reserved. He expresses his disgust and leaves without a rental. Sheesh, I think, maybe I’ve reserved that guys truck because it’s time for me to pick up my rental, and maybe he was late or something….nope.

I am told by a young man who apparently hasn’t found the time for customer service classes, that ( you can guess at this, if you’d like )**the truck I had reserved, it was not available. After a good bit of venting, I have got to move with something, I rented a truck that could move my entire neighborhood…collectively!

I have since made an acquaintance with a guy who owns his own hauling truck. Next time, I’ll have a back-up plan. But never again with U-Haul be my first choice!
