It all started so beautifully…making a reservation online is very easy. You pick out the kind of truck you want, and they give you a pretty good idea of what will fit into the different size trucks. You fill in all the details on the date of the move, etc., and in no time, you have yourself a confirmed reservation. Which is followed up by an email and a telephone call confirmation, both of which let you know that they will call you by 5 PM on the day prior to your move to let you know what time to pick up the equipment.
So 5 PM on the day prior comes, and no call. So I call the number provided in the email, and get only a busy signal. Same thing all night, and into the following morning. Finally, at 9:30 in the morning on the day of the move, I get through, and am told they are working on a delay, and that I will be contacted “soon”. Several more hours, and still no call. I keep trying the customer service number, but can’t get anywhere. Finally, at 12:30 PM, I went to the hardware store, bought 100 feet of nylon rope, and tied the mattress and box spring I wanted to move onto the roof of my car. Extremely unsafe, but I had to move that day, so I didn’t have much of a choice.
I was lucky, because I only had a short distance to go for the move, so I could keep shuttling back and forth the rest of the things that needed to be moved. But it required a ton of trips, and was really time consuming.
Finally, at 4 PM, someone from U-Haul called and said that my truck was ready. And they seem surprised when I told them that was too late and that I didn’t want the truck anymore.
U-Haul is completely unreliable, and customer service is unhelpful. Unless you want a completely frustrating experience, I would try a different company.
