I just want to jump in–along with the many others here–on warning people away from this company. We made the online ‘reservation’ (uh, yeah….like that meant anything) for our one way trip and drove down to pack up our belongings/pick up the truck the next morning. The day before, we received a text message with the location, date and time of pick-up, upon which we called to confirm the reservation. They said that, yes, the reservation was confirmed and the truck would be available.
We went the next morning to pick up the truck at the designated time. The pick-up location was literally in one of the worst areas of the city. We arrived to a tiny, dump of an automobile service-type center of some sorts and noticed a few U-haul trucks in the parking lot, complete with tape on the outside and blown out windows. We were right on time, but no one was in the “office.” We hung around for a while and waited. Some random guy came by and said that this person may not show up for a while, but we had no idea who this person was or if what he was saying was correct. However, we did notice the crime bars and several bullet holes in the window of the office, and didn’t want to hang around all day wondering about our safety. We left.
Next, the myriad of phone calls to U-haul. Suddenly, no one was answering the confirmation number we had just called yesterday. Calls to the main number were met with them stating that they would get back to us, to call abc and xyz, etc. etc. Calls to abc and xyz lead us with statements that the person should be at our designated location in a while. Nope, we need to move NOW if possible, we are not going to wait all day! If someone says they are going to meet us at 10 a.m. with a truck, we expect a truck at 10 a.m.–not 11, not 12 and not the next day. And I sure as heck did not want to go back to such a terrible location. Finally, we got in touch with the place/person who was supposed to have our truck, only to find out that, no, they did *not* have our truck. It was a totally wasted morning, in both money and time. And of course, no apologies. Infuriating.
We now have a reservation with another company, and hope things work out much better. In the meantime, stay far, far away from U-haul.
