I went to U-Haul simply rent a trailer(6×12) for a move. The condition of their trailer beds was not good. They were dented, and I wondered if that might be an issue for moving furniture. After a long wait, I finally had the trailer on my vehicle but for hooking up the brake lights.(They hook it all up on the site) However, their trailer just had 4 loose wires hanging down for the brake lights rather than a standard terminal that every other trailer on the U-Haul lot but the one they tried to rent to me had on them. After they could not find a terminal block in their garage, they came out of the store with one in hand in a plastic bag and informed me that I had to buy it. This was after I had paid for everything for this rental in the store already. I asked if I could just have a trailer on the lot that had the terminal block already since all the others had it. After being told that the other trailer in this size was “down”, the manager gave me this ultimatum in a very rude tone: “Buy the adapter or we drop the trailer.” I told them to drop it, I reversed my charges, and I drove right over to Penske instead where I rented a very nice truck instead with excellent customer service. The difference in cost between the U-Haul trailer and the Penske truck was much more than the U-Haul adapter would have cost, but it was worth it to be able to deal with a professional organization like Penske. U-Haul has the worst customer service that I have ever seen in any business. They lost my business forever with their rude staff and by trying to get people to pay for their maintenance of their trailers. If you rent a trailer, it should come complete and be ready to go. After all, isn’t that what you are paying for?
