Well moving day turned out to be quite an event. Our Uhaul, which was supposed to be ready for the morning, wasn’t. We had to call them all day and finally at 8:30pm a truck was ready. The truck was supposed to be practically new but it didn’t act like it was. We loaded the truck and were ready to leave at 11:07pm, thanks to everyone that helped us load the vehicle including the kind gentleman that came from nowhere and gave us loading tips; he is a professional mover.

One issue aside from the Uhaul being late was that the inside light was missing a bulb so it was pretty dark when loading the truck. Later just past Toronto, the engine light came on; the truck started to lose acceleration and would stall. By then it was really late and no way would we stop the truck. Imagine having to call for service, (we have no cell phone), switch trucks and reload? We being the wife, I and 1 dog and 1 cat; ah No thanks.

We ended up driving from Peterborough area, running at 20km/h (with hazard lights running) until we reached our destination. Every time the vehicle seemed like it would die we would pray and continue. Occasionally would stop at the side of the road to cool the truck down because this seemed to help. Even an OPP officer drove by us and didn’t offer any assistance.

Well we made it, arrival time 5:30am Saturday morning. Daughter “Ariel” and dog Sadie were already at our new home waiting for us (but sleeping).

With 30 minutes of sleep we were ready to begin unloading and making the Lakehouse our home.
