I rented a 25 foot GMC truck to move from Seattle to southern Oregon (I had reserved an 18′ truck which they then didn’t have but that’s another horror story). The short version of this story is that the emergency brake on this truck did not work nor did the Park gear. I found this out after loading the truck and stopping at some friends house who lived on a hill. I put the truck in Park and put the emergency brake on but when I took my foot off the truck it kept rolling! I found a flat place to park after that.
When I dropped the truck off at UHaul one of the workers told me the same thing happened to him when a customer returned one of these 25′ GMC’s. He parked it behind their facility and then went inside. When he came out later the truck had rolled into a fence which saved it from hitting the building.
In short, UHaul is renting unsafe vehicles.
