I went to a U Haul office on North Clark in Chicago on 9/28/07 to buy some boxes. There were ten people in line and one person at the service counter. The manager was in his office and when I asked him a question, he said the “counter girl: would help me.

Back at the counter I watched the person there answer the phone eight times put the call on hold and and then 5 to 6 minuets later just go through and disconnect all the lines.

When I finally got to the counter and asked why she did that, she said she was too busy to answer questions, and they were sold out that weekend because it was the end of the month.

I have never seen a company run like this—-no customer service. HOW DO THEY STAY IN BUSINESS, THEY DON’T CARE.

Yesterday I asked eight people if they had ever used U Haul and all had. I then asked them what they thought of the company. EVERYONE I spoke with said they a had a bad experance.

Here are some of what they had to say.

1. the 800 number is poorly staffed. They have no idea of what is going on in the field.

2. The 800 number people are not only rude but ill informed.

3. Local Office is poorly staffed - rude, don’t care,

4. when you call the 800 number they give you a reservation number, but when you try to pick up the truck they don’t need to honer the reservation. But here is the thing that is so unreal, if you miss the reservation they charge you $50.

5. I reserved 2 of the there largest trucks they have 17′ or larger. When I went to pick them up - they said all they had was ONE 6′ trailer. I showed them my reservations and that I was moving a large house and needed both trucks for two days They said to come back in an hour. When I returned the person was no longer there and the other person had no idea what I was talking about. Now they had nothing.

Again I showed them my reservation and they said I was late and they gave the 6′ trailer away. This all took place before 8:30 AM on a recent Sat. morning.

I called the 800 number and the operator said that they were showing 2 large trucks at the location I was at. I gave the phone to the clerk and he looked at me as though I had 2 heads said something to the operator and hung up. He then said to me he still didn’t have anything, and the people at the home office were stupid and didn’t know what they were doing.

He said he wouldn’t have anything before Tuesday.

I left and called another rental company. they were professional and had what I needed at noon.

I would never use U Haul again.
