I completed a reservation form via the internet for the rental of a truck on 7/17/04 and was given a confirmed reservation. Later that day I received an email UHAUL’s regional Traffic Control manager. The email confirmed my reservation and also informed me that I would be receiving a call from UHAUL no later than 5:00 PM the day before my reservation with instructions on where to pick up the truck.

On 7/16, we started getting concerned that UHAUL would not call, so we contacted the number given to us for the required vehicle pickup information. We placed five separate phone calls that afternoon, each time being put on hold as soon as the UHAUL rep answered the phone. After 5:00, I started getting very concerned and started calling UHAUL again. The first three times I called, I was immediately placed on hold.

I waited approximately 10-15 minutes each time and then hung up believing that I was lost in UHAUL cyberspace. Around 7:00 PM EDT I was able to speak with a UHAUL rep, w! ho promised me that somebody from UHAUL would call me later that evening with the truck pick up information. Nobody called by 9:00 PM, so I called back again.

I was then told that everybody had left for the day and to call back at 7:00 AM on moving day (7/17). At approximately 7:05 I started calling the traffic control number, and was immediately put on hold. I waited 15 minutes and gave up and decided to call 1-800-UHAUL. I explained my situation to the rep who then put me on hold to contact the traffic number himself.

After about 5 minutes the sales rep said that he was placed on hold by the UHAUL traffic control number and that he couldn?t help me except to say that I should continue holding. I waited 10 minutes, until somebody answered and asked for my reference number. I gave them the number and was told ?one moment please?. I waited for 65 additional minutes and finally hung up. I then decided to contact the local UHAUL store, my ?preferred? location for the truck pic! kup.

The person there said that he didn?t have any trucks and that he couldn?t help me. So now here I am on moving day with no truck, even though I had obtained a confirmed reservation one month in advance. I placed one quick phone call to Budget Truck Rental, and was immediately given a reservation. One quick phone call to Budget Truck Rental and all of my problems were resolved. So please do yourself a favor and avoid the unnecessary stress and avoid UHAUL.
