Hi here is the letter I have written to Uhaul and have not recieved answer to. I had no idea there were so many people who had similar and even worse situations until I had mine… now with all the online searching I find I am not alone… but even worse, that I may be out my bucks. I am the spouse in a military family so it is even worse as our budget is already stretched thin and that money is something we need! Wendy L I have a problem with my rental agreement and being overcharged CONSIDERABLY on my rental of a car dolly. I have now contacted the local place of pick-up and they said they would return my call and have not. I have contacted bothe the MN and LA regional offices and they have told me they can do nothing about it… and I am now out over 100.00. I rented the dolly and my father picked it up in MN to bring my car to me in LA. When he arrived on Saturday to pick up the dolly at the time that the person there was having problems with the computer system or something of the sort and only gave us the PINK reciept where it showed that we were going to be charged 152.00 plus the tax. He told us that once someone else arrived on Monday, they would take care of the rest. It also only states, on that slip, that the day the dolly arrives in New Llano, were are to call an 800 number to find out where it is to be returned. I called that number the day BEFORE we were to return it. They gave me the address and only told me it was to be returned on teh 28th… there was no mention of time NOR is there mention of time on our pink slip. When I arrived at the drop off site the next morning, I was first rather rudely treated by a woman who gave me quite an attitude about not having the proper paperwork. We over and over explained our situation and told her that this was all that was given to my father. Once she finally stopped speaching me and got ahold of an office who could fax us a contract (which we never signed, nor had knowledge of)she charged us 21.70 and insisted we pay it because our rental was returned 2 hours late! After I paid her, I looked at the contract that was sent to her via fax and the wheaton place had also charged us an additional 51.12!! Since I was not expecting this charge, I had spent money from my account and had now racked up 3 unexpected overdrafts! After a lot of calling back and forth at the new llano drop-off, the woman could give us no better explanation than “I don’t know why”. We began to call the MN and LA regional offices, and the Wheaton office to find an explanation. Wheaton’s office was not answering and did not until 2 weeks later when they just told us they would call us back… to this day they have not. We have called multiple times and still get no answer at either of the telephone numbers provided to us. Both regional offices just said they can’t do anything about it. Due to the mistake of the Wheaton office, a total of 150.15 has been removed from my bank account that was not authorized. I also have had to take on an extra expense of 21.70 because we had no knowledge of a specific time that we were to return the dolly on that day… we would have been more than able to return it two hours earlier, but since we had NOTHING stating that, we assumed business hours was appropriate. I am, to say the least, VERY disappointed in our U-haul experience. I would appreciate a return of my money, INCLUDING my 99.00 in overdraft charges. I believe that if these extra charges by U-haul had not been brought upon us, those charges would not have occurred. My bank has already told me that it is not their responsibility to take care of this error, and I agree. It is your company’s. I have made a copy of this report, and hope that this is the last time I will have to send it. But unsatisfactory response to this problem within an adequate time frame will result in multiple reports to your company AND a report filed with the Better Business Bureau, for starters. I am very upset with this transaction from your company and if needed, will consult an attourney. Living in Louisiana as a military family means that moving to many other states and cities is very possible, but U-Haul has lost any possible business from us for those furure moves if this is not resolved. I would much rather know what I am paying in advance and pay MORE, than use your services again and have to wrestle to keep my money.
