I have a one bedroom apt and will be using a truck and a pull behind 6*12 UHAUL trailer to move. Do you think I can fit everything in it? I have all the normal stuff 32′ TV, queen bed, computer desk, couch.
Measure stuff. 6×12 seems kinda too small. If I recall U-haul pricing, they don't charge that much more for a bigger trailer.
Drive a lot slower. It may be the same pickup truck you always drive, but it's NOT — now it's a "rig". It handles TOTALLY differently, brakes totally differently and accelerates like *$!@#$.
Think very carefully about getting out whenever you go to park. Generally your best play is do the move in one shot. Don't visit people enroute. Fuel only at truck stops. Use pull-through semi-truck parking spots and act like a semi truck. You are a semi-truck.
When I trailered and I urgently needed windshield wiper blades, I stopped at an RV supply which not surprisingly had a parking lot suitable for RVs. Worked real well.
The trailer probably says '45 mph'. They mean it! because it's a piece-o-junk rental trailer. Even if you load it right, it's likely to shake, waddle and drift all over the road at speeds faster than 45. Don't push it. Plan for your trip taking that much longer. The other reason to go slower is that it's easier on your truck. Breaking down while on the road with a trailer would suck. Oh, and have a lock to lock the trailer door with, so you can leave it unattended.
If you feel your automatic transmission "hunting", flipping between gears like it can't decide what's the best gear, manually downshift to the lower gear. Allowing it to hunt will take years off the transmission's life.
