I am so angry about my recent experience with Uhaul that I have to warn others about them. I booked a 10 ft truck 4 weeks in advance to move from Boston to NY. I was sent a confirmation - but little did I know that “confirmation” does not actually mean you will get a truck on the day of the move. Moves between states are coordinated through a ‘central reservation’ unit. This is the most appalling and unorganized system I have ever seen. The day before the move I was called to say there was a ‘delay’. The guy on the phone was rude and would not explain what this actually meant. By 9pm that night I was starting to panic. The telephone numbers they gave me were either constantly busy, or you were put on hold for between 1 and 2 hours. When I finally did speak to someone they were not helpful, they were rude, aggressive and could not tell me if I was getting a truck. After a sleepless night we still had no truck and had tried calling at least 50 times. NO TRUCK. When I did get to speak to a customer service agent, I was crying and very upset. They said they had no idea whether I would get a vehicle that day. They did not explain why this was and I am still confused. They clearly rent out more trucks than they have and do not keep track of the ones they have sent out. We never did get a truck and ended up with a really awful moving situation - with movers on the other end waiting for us, charging us money and the new tenant waiting in the street for me to move my stuff. We ended up having to go to a random company and rented a suburban and a trailer - which was a complete nightmare.

I can honestly say that this was one of the worst and most stressful experiences of my life. I don’t know how they can get away with this - there were other people in the office that we went to who were also moving out of state and who were also having the same disgusting experience.

I would advise use Budget or another company - this one is TERRIBLE.
