I recently moved my family to Canada from Texas. We read the epinion Uhaul reviews and tried to find any other self-move option, without success. So we made a “reservation”. That’s where the trouble started. You should be aware that what you’re really doing when you reserve a truck or piece of equipment is basically saying “if you have the truck I need on this date, please give me a call. If not, I need it as soon as possible.” However, this was not explained to me before then.
I made the booking a month in advance. I called to confirm a week in advance — no problem. The day before, Uhaul calls and says “we don’t have a truck for you, but we’re trying to find one.” PANIC ATTACK!
Anyway, they finally located a truck, but it was a piece of junk. They didn’t care what kind of vehicle they put me in for a 2200 mile trip. The oil could not be checked because the dipstick tube was broken at the base. Several systems on the truck acted as if they could fail at any moment.
Bottom line — the truck did get our possessions to Canada, but we should receive compensation for emotional stress.
