Yesterday someone was supposed to call me with pickup information for today. I am moving across country and need to move all of my belongings out by tomorrow. No one called yesterday, so I called their regional office (as instructed by the national hotline).

I was put on hold for over 12 minutes, got to a person twice and was put on hold again, and then hung up on. When I tried calling back, the office was closed. The national hotline is not one by the way — they just direct calls to the regional office so don’t expect help from them. I was told by the national office that the regional folks would call me at 730am the next morning, which they did not.

At 8am today I called the regional people, who blatantly lied and said that they were having a slow computer day and would call me back in a few minutes. No one did. At 9am I called again and talked to a nice woman (who has only been on the job for 3weeks and thus is still willing to be helpful). She said - tobe honest, we don’t have a truck or car trailer for you today. I somehow stayed calm and discussed my options, and she said she would personally call me back at 10am. To be quite frank, I doubt I am getting a phone call back. I’ve checked around at other moving truck companies and so far Budget and Penske can help, but at twice the price. I am sitting here, looking at my packed boxes and trying not to panic or begin screaming (if I start, I might not stop).

Don’t be fooled. I suspect many folks use Uhaul because they do have considerably lower rates - many of us are on a budget. But please please please go with one of the other companies. The discount is NOT worth it - you will only pay extra by enduring a huge level of stress and also time. Companies like UHaul need to learn that their business practices won’t be tolerated and that despite the fact they cater to poor people — even people with no money have power. Have a yard sale, work some extra hours, set up a freaking lemonade stand if you have to in order to pay the extra for a reliable truck rental company.
