U Haul is a NO GO!!! U Haul

My husband and I rented a 26′ truck to haul our stuff from Arizona to Ohio. In Arizona as soon as me left we had trouble with the engine overheating. In New Mexico we hit some rain and found out then the windshield leaks on the inside. We also found out the headlight turn off by themselves while driving. We also had to add 5 quart of oii throughout the trip because there was a leak. In Missouri the oil cap flew off, which we found and rigged on to keep from flying off till we got home. Only to get into Illinois to literally throw the drive shaft. Luckly a state highway patrolmen stopped and called U haul for us so they came out and towed the truck. After waiting 5 hours for them to switch drive shafts with another truck we were back on the road again. We just got past Indianapolis only 100 miles away from home and the clutch went out in the truck. We call the 1-800 number twice because the told us to call back the first time. The second time they told us they were sending someone out they should be there in 30 min or so. Well after 1 1/2 hours a mechanic showed up looked under the engine and said yeah I will have to call a tow truck because it is internal. Now my husband isn’t stupid when it comes to vehicles…you could have told them that. They told us we could rent a motel, which U haul would reimburse us for and we could get the truck in the morning or whatever they had to do to get our stuff home. We said no thank you, we had already spent 3 days on the road with little sleep we just wanted to go home. So we unloaded the car from the trailer and drove home. They told us to call some number in the morning to find out where our truck was and what they were going to do. The mechanic was nice he tried to get us towed home since it was such a short distance but uhual said no…they wouldn’t tow anymore then 50 miles. This was at 10:00pm.

We drove home and the next day we called the number, well they gave us another number to call. So we called that number and they were like oh we wondered why that truck was here. So we drove back to Indianapolis to take care of our stuff. When we got there they said they adjusted the clutch and it seemed to be working fine. We took the truck out to try it and the clutch was still a little loose but we didn’t really want to have to wait for U haul to unload and reload the truck so we took it home that day.

Amazingly we made it home after all the bs and breakdowns.

We returned the truck after we got it loaded. The office there had no idea what was going on and why we were bringing the truck back late. So our extra charges on truck would have been $180. However they were nice enough to call U haul and by pass us paying the money up front when it wasn’t our fault in the first place for being late.

We still have to get in contact with U haul for more reimbursement and believe me they will be hearing from us and it will not be a good thing.

We expect some kind of refund on the $1400 we paid. We did not spent all that money to have so many problems and headaches.

Next time no matter what we will be going with Ryder or Penske.

This was our first time using them and by far it was not a good experience and I would not recommend them to anyone.
