U Haul is not here for you U Haul

Right after my husband and I were married, we rented a U-Haul to get all my stuff up to our new home 2 states away! The price of the medium van was VERY VERY expensive. It was around $500.00! I can say though that when we went to pick up the truck it was brand new. only had a couple hundred miles on it and it was all around nice as well as very clean inside where we were going to be my stuff.

Well we got to our destination and had no where to live yet so we took advantage of their offer of one free month . Everything was still fine, we needed to keep using their for awhile, until we got into base housing. Their rates were expensive (around $50.00 a month plus insurance) but at the time that’s what we needed to do. Well we got a letter saying that their rates were going to increase. It was at that point that we decided that we needed dot get out of there because we couldn’t afford to pay them any more a month!

I got a friend who had a truck to help me get my stuff out….we went there after their office hours, but you can get into the area with a special code 24/7. Once we got in both of the doors to access my garage were piled with snow. The main one looked like the plow just dumped it’s load there because it was taller than me! We went to the side door which was only a couple feet deep and dug through that so I could get inside and clear out my stuff. When I got inside there was a lock on my door. not just my lock, but one they put there as well. I couldn’t figure out why because they automatically debited my checking account for the amount due every month. I looked around and there were locks on EVERY SINGLE DOOR! I knew something had to be up, but since they were closed there was nothing at the time that I could do. I was getting ready to go out of town the next morning so I couldn’t get back there to get my stuff, so when I was at my destination I had to call them long distance to find out what was going on. I talked to some less than enthusiastic kid who said uhhhhh and grunted a lot and I finally got out of him that this was some new policy that they had. When asked why I wasn’t notified I got the answer of "Uh I don’t know we sent out letters" I wanted a credit on my account because I was now going to be charged an extra month, and I finally got it after calling back (long distance) numerous times, but it took then a long long time to credit my account.

This part of my U-haul experience has left a bad *taste* in my head to go along with the name. I will gladly go with another company in the future.
