We rented a U-Haul in Chickasha, Oklahoma and returned it in Rogers, Arkansas. The truck was filthy when we picked it up. The steering was extremely loose, almost impossible to control. Top speed was 45 with your foot to the floor. The check engine light stayed on the whole trip. We contacted U-Haul and they said it was safe to continue driving. they offered us an extra day since the speed was right at the minimum limit for the turnpike. We risked being ticketed every time we went up the slightest incline. Once we made it to our destination, we discovered that almost everything in the truck that was breakable was broken, even stuff that was wrapped in bubble wrap! That’s how rough the ride was. When we mentioned this to U-Haul, they said we loaded the truck wrong. My husband was a professional mover for 3 years and had never broken anything in any of the moves! It was not that it was loaded wrong, it was that the truck bounced all over the place. When we returned the truck, they tried to bill us for the extra day. We refused to pay. So, now they have placed it on my husband’s credit report. So, either pay up whatever they tell you to or risk ruining your credit.
