I feel that it is important that I share with possible U-Haul customers my experience with the company. I reserved a truck 3 weeks in advance, only to find that it was not available on the day of my move. I was made to wait all weekend for a phone call from U-Haul, which never came. I was made to feel inferior and ignorant every time that I called U-Haul to inquire about my status. To make a VERY long story short, here’s my list of complaints against U-Haul…
1. Take more reservations than they have trucks.
2. Don’t return phone calls.
3. Don’t care about the customer.
4. Inconsistent pricing.
5. Rude customer service representatives.
6. They alerted me on two occasions that a truck was available, only to say that that was a mistake.
7. Gave me a key that only worked in the ignition, which resulted in being locked out of the truck for 3 1/2 hours while I waited for someone to unlock it.
8. Confirmed pick-up time was 11:00 am Saturday, actual pick-up time was more than 24 hours later.
9. Told me that I would have a one-way truck for a 120 mile trip, but ended up having to pay 59 cents per mile for a local truck. I then had to drive it back and return it the next morning.
10. Provided me with a truck that did not have working brake lights.
11. A confirmed price of $112.00 ended up costing me $185.00 plus the price of gas, which was about $35.00.
12. They tried to charge me for opening the blanket cage in the truck, when it was already opened and I had recorded it on the contract before I took the truck.
13. For causing me to have a nightmare of a weekend, when all I was trying to do was move to my new job as a first year music teacher.
14. For acting as if none of this mattered to them,and that I was just another reservation without a time schedule for the move.
