I have never had more trouble with getting a rental truck than I did with U-haul. I called ahead and reserved the biggest size truck they had. I left my credit card number as a deposit. Had I not shown up to get my truck, they would have charged me $75.
Well, I did show up to get my truck, at about 11:30am on a Saturday morning, as reserved. This was after I had driven halfway across town to leave my 5-month-old son with his grandparents so I would be able to help get everything moved. We had friends and family all lined up to help us that day, and some even took off work to help us. Everything would have been fine, except the U-Haul rental place told us "Sorry, we don’t have any truck today." Excuse me????? I had a reservation!!!!!
Well, no amount of screaming, threatening, arguing, or logic would get through to this dolt at the counter, who just kept saying "I don’t have any trucks." Did he ever get on the phone to try and find me one somewhere else? NO! Did he offer to give ME $75 for breaking the reservation? HECK NO! Finally I realized that this guy didn’t give a darn if I got a truck or not, so I left.
Went home, unpacked the phone, and called U-Haul’s 800#. They kept telling me the same thing. "Sorry, but there is nothing we can do." After several hours of complaints from me, my husband, my father-in-law, and everyone else who was supposed to help us move, U-Haul FINALLY found us a truck. By then it was about 5pm. We had to load everything in the dark, and unload it, by ourselves (my husband and I, because everyone else had gone home), at 1am! The truck was due back the next morning, or else they would charge us for another day. Nevermind the fact that it was their fault that we didn’t get the truck until so late in the first place.
I will never, ever rent a U-Suck truck again in my life!!!! I don’t care if I have to carry my furniture strapped to my back and walk to my new house. They are terrible!!!!
