We rented a truck from U-Haul for a long-distance move, and my husband drove through the lonely mountains all night with a van which had no heat, no speedometer, and no windshield wipers. The van was covered with filthy graffiti. After arriving at our destination, he discovered the van, after some absence, surrounded by the police: evidently, it had been reported as stolen. U-Haul refuses to offer more than a $50 adjustment. We think that is insufficient compensation for the risk to his life and property. Upon returning the van, we went to Budget truck rentals to complete our move. They gave us a new van at a terrific rate, very low mileage rate, and couldn’t have been nicer.
