What a *terrible* company to do business with! Unfortunately, they seem to be the only self- in the U.S. that’ll move to Canada. I didn’t find out what a terrible company they were until it was too late - just a few days before leaving. They did NOT make it clear that I might have to travel to East Nowhere to pick up a truck, and when I called to complain I got transferred to a manager who threatened to cancel my truck and hang up on me. This is how they operate - once they have you, they will blackmail you to keep you from complaining.

So I had to change all my carefully-laid plans for my last few days in CT so that I could pick up a truck NOT in the town next to me, which is where I *made* these plans, but from some tiny little gas station in Falls Village (Lime Rock Auto) which was about forty miles from where I lived. The drooling idiot (Phil) that I got the truck from - and I am not exaggerating, it was an older guy literally drooling down his coveralls - wouldn’t answer my questions, verbally abused me and when I tried to fight back HE threatened to not let me have the truck - and then continued to abuse me because he knew I’d be screwed without it. He also gave me the truck with almost no gas in it and then marked the contract to show just a little under a half tank, which I didn’t see until I got home. And oh, there was a big hassle with all the charges on the contract - no one could explain what was going on %26 I finally had to relent and give it up figuring I could figure it out once I got to Ontario.

Although I’d read absolute horror stories here about how terrible the trucks were - something that caused me a few sleepless nights wondering if I was going to wind up dead in a ditch - the truck was the *only* positive experience I had with U-Haul. It had 108k miles on it but gave me no trouble whatsoever.

I did check the bill later and called U-Haul just to make sure all the charges were on the up and up; they were, except for a $136 charge they agreed to credit and another $28 on their insurance that they’d overcharged me on.

By and large I would say AVOID U-Haul, like most people say here, they are rude, offensive, threaten to cancel your order for a truck if you don’t “behave”, and are one of the most unprofessional companies I’ve ever had to deal with. The only good thing I can say about them is the truck got me and my stuff to Ontario safely and without incident. But I will *never* recommend these idiots to anyone.
