Every time that we’ve used U-Haul, there has been some sort of problem, and we’re a military family, so we’ve used them quite a bit over the past few years. Why do we keep going back you ask? For one reason, they are located virtually everywhere via franchise representatives or small businesses, and they are usually pretty inexpensive. Each time that I’ve had a problem with one of their independent franchises (or whatever they are at a gas station or sewing shop or whoever owns it), I have contacted their corporate office (nationally) and they have tried to rectify the situation. Usually, the problem is with the equipment when we rent a truck, not always with a trailer. Once, we waited in line for almost two hours on a Saturday morning, only to be told that our truck was not available because someone had stolen it. We had to drive across town to another U-Haul location to get a truck (another hour and half round trip). Another time, the associate who checked the truck out to us spoke very little English and had the gas level of the truck incorrect on the invoice. I tried to get him to correct it, he told me he did, and then they charged us double for gas when we brought it back because we refilled it to its original level, which they had never changed. Service is virtually always lacking and terrible, but where else can we go?
