The truck was fine. Returning it was fine. But we never thought we’d actually get one….
We rented our U-haul weeks ahead of time online (thought we were being smart). They said they would call us 48 hours before our move date to let us know where to pick up the truck.
The call never came.
The night before our move, I sat on hold with U-Haul for 25 minutes before somehow being hung up on. I called them back and sat on hold with them for another 45 minutes before they hung up on me AGAIN, saying that their offices had closed for the day (7 pm, I believe), even though I had started calling almost 1 1/2 hours earlier!
Moving Day arrives. No idea where the truck is. I wake up extra early and call U-Haul. Bliss! I only had to hold for 15 minutes. Our truck was nearby - only 38 miles away!
So we drive down to go pick it up (getting some coffee to wake up on the drive down), and get to the small local dealer. She asked if we had a reservation. We produced our printed copies. She said that it was a good thing that we had come when we did, because she had no record of our reservation and would have rented our truck, the LAST of that size, to the next person who walked in the door.
WTF! After not getting a call from U-Haul regarding where to pick up our truck, driving nearly 40 miles to the “local” rental, and holding for 1 1/2 hours, our truck could’ve been rented to the next bloke who walked in the door??????????
Never again will I leave my move up to chance and use U-Haul. I have no faith in them whatsoever.
