I have only used U-Haul once, and when you here my story you will know why. The story starts when I decided to choose U-Haul because it was the cheapest and biggest place to go to in the area. I lived in New York (Buffalo Area) and me and my family were moving to North Carolina (Charlotte Area). We needed a good reliable service to move our valubles.
I chose the middle sized U-Haul, and the price was $800 some dollars for a one way trip from New York to North Carolina, about 625 miles. We checked around at Ryder and some other companies and the rates were higher, and a U-Haul office was the closest to where we were moving to. The office in New York was a bit odd, there were no signs stating that a U-Haul office was there, (the U-Hauls were across the street) and on the first floor of the house was a small brokers office and the U-Hauls office was upstairs in very cramped room.
NOTE: If your going on a on way trip from north to south it will be more expensive than moving from south to north. The reason is more people are moving south and U-Haul has to pay their own drivers to bring them back to the north were there is more demand.
THE U-HAUL EXPERIENCE:
We left for North Carolina around 6:30 a.m. It is about a 11 to 12 hour drive for us. My wife and son rode behind me while I was driving the U-Haul. Everything was going great, UNTIL we were about 2-3 hours away from our destination and in the middle of traffic we got a blowout on the right back tire! It scared me half to death I thought I was shot it was so loud. Luckly my wife was behind me and knew what happend or someone else could have been hurt. So I pulled over to the side of the road and I told my wife to go call the U-Haul Hotline. So I waited for her to get back for 30MINS! and she said she had to be on hold for 15 minutes. She said people would be there in 30 minutes. Finally they did something right and showed up early and fixed the tire, and said the tire was not inflated all the way. So we went on our way and then everything was fine until we got home. We unloaded everything and it was all in the same condition when we put it in. WHEW!
MORAL: Don’t use your equipment until its inflated. HAHA
When we had to drop off the U-Haul we were in and out with no problems. Besides getting a flat tire, everything was fine, ???Maybe that’s why its so cheap???
