I “reserved” a 14′ moving truck a week prior to my move date. I used quotation marks because when I arrived there I was told that the truck wasn’t there and told I could have a 10′ truck or nothing. The 10′ didn’t even have a ramp. I left in a huff and spent nearly 2 hours trying to get someone in customer service to find me another vehicle.
The response was an “it’s not our problem” attitude that went all the way up to the Regional Manager who called me and told me there was no validity to my claim and that I would never be allowed to rent from U-Haul again because I’d caused such a fuss for not being able to get the truck I had reserved.
At no time was I offered a larger truck, or a truck for another day. They simply kept telling me that I should take the 10′ truck. I explained that if they made a reservation for 10 at a restaurant and held it with a credit card, and upon arriving were told they didn’t have a table for 10, but were more than welcome to have a table for 2, they’d be upset. The regional manager replied that he would not be upset and would take the table. They have no shame and no remorse.
I would avoid U-Haul at all cost. They will charge you if you miss your reservation and don’t give notice, but they feel no shame in not honoring your reservation and will take absolutely no steps to rectify the situation. It’s not just a local problem, it’s company wide.
